about Laney Clark of silentgoddess art jewelry: girl with a saw
I have been making metal jewelry for 30 years. My first introduction to metal was at a bronze sculpture pour at an artist's foundry that was built in an empty public swimming pool at a park in Las Vegas, NV. After witnessing the molten bronze flowing into the sculpture mold, I knew I needed to learn how to work with metal.
While I am mostly self-taught through years of trial and error, I have taken a few formal classes to fine tune stone setting, tool making, and other techniques that have grabbed my interest.
At this point in my career, I am best known for my metal piercing skills. When I first picked up a jeweler's saw, it certainly wasn't love at first sight. But with a pile of broken blades and a few scars on my hands, I have taken that shaky relationship with the saw to a higher place. Early on, I realized that if I could master the jeweler's saw, I would be able to cut out any shape imaginable, and now decades later, I use my piercing skills to cut intricate designs in metal.
My work is most often inspired by the abundance of nature that I am surrounded by in the Pacific Northwest but occasionally I can be persuaded by the bold, straight lines of the urban scenery of the city. Each piece of jewelry I create is a small piece of art meant to be worn.
